Teach Access Europe

Overview

Building on the success of Teach Access in the United States, Teach Access Europe aims to support European educators with the training and resources needed to teach students how to design and build inclusive, accessible digital technologies. High-level objectives include:

  • Extend Teach Access’s mission throughout Europe by aligning with local education systems and workforce development organizations.
  • Strengthen accessibility education and training within higher education.
  • Facilitate cross-sector collaboration between educators and industry leaders to co-develop and integrate accessible curriculum and professional training.
  • Build a sustainable, visible, and impactful European presence that advances inclusive technology development.

Structure and Activities

A steering committee composed of European disability and accessibility experts has identified several foundational working groups to guide the initiative’s early development. These working groups and some of their primary focal areas are:

Community, Strategy, & Sustainability

  • Develop a strategy for sustainability and visibility
  • Define and track impact metrics
  • Identify and pursue funding sources
  • Engage stakeholders from government, higher education, and disability organizations

Teaching, Learning & Workforce

  • Evaluate and enhance accessibility in existing curricula
  • Co-develop materials through university-industry partnerships
  • Understand industry needs and embed accessibility competencies
  • Create pipelines from education to employment

Accreditation, Policy & Research

  • Advocate for mandatory accessibility in courses and qualifications
  • Engage accreditation bodies and policy stakeholders
  • Map and promote existing efforts and best practices
  • Publish findings and address real-world barriers
